Bath Dance

Who are we:
Bath and North East Somerset Dance Development Steering Group is a consortium of professional and voluntary sector of dancers, dance promoters, dance educators and arts administrators, resident or working in the area.
The Steering Group was formed in 2005 to support, encourage and promote the development of dance activity following a strategic planning session funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council and facilitated by Sue Davies (Swindon Dance).
Bath Dance aims to:
- develop new audiences and raise the profile of dance
- co-ordinate and promote existing dance provision
- extend dance provision
- provide professional development and support for the local dance constituency
- extend the skill base and resources available to the local dance constituency
- facilitate the creation and performance of high-quality, professional dance
- to integrate local dance activity with dance activity in the south west region
In 2006, the Bath & North East Somerset Dance Development Steering Group was jointly funded by Arts Council England and Bath and North East Somerset Council to deliver the project ‘Elevation’ (2006-08), the ambitious two-year programme of dance development activity.
The 'Site Specific Dance Commission – The Big Dance 2008' was the culmination of the project 'Elevation' and took place in central Bath on Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 July 2008. It was undertaken by the Italian Dance Company Deja Donne.
